How an affordable ad rate is calculated
Promoted Listings General uses a cost-per-sale model. For an attributed sale, this calculator applies the selected ad rate to the modeled total sale amount: item price, buyer-paid shipping, and estimated sales tax.
Target-safe ad rate preserves your desired profit margin. The higher break-even rate leaves zero modeled profit and is a risk limit, not a recommended campaign setting.
eBay’s suggested ad rate reflects marketplace advertising conditions, not your product’s profitability. Compare it with your target-safe rate before choosing a campaign rate.
The 13.6% default reflects the standard rate for most categories without a Store under the modeled threshold. Category, tier, and Store rates vary. Verify your actual final value and per-order fees in eBay Seller Hub.
Sales tax affects the eBay fee and ad-fee base but is excluded from seller economic revenue and profit.
